Psalm 31:9-10

WEEKLY REFLECTION | Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday, March 28, 2021

We approach this Passion/Palm Sunday 2021 with a long season of suffering behind us. It is fitting and appropriate that we are grieving, angry, and hold deep sorrow for our nation. We are called, as disciples of Jesus, to also be persons who break the cycle of violence. May this Holy Week be one where we suffer with Christ as we walk with him to Jerusalem.

Verse 23 says: “For he does not despise nor abhor the poor in their poverty; neither does he hide his face from them. But when they cry to him he hears them.”These verses apply to those in physical hunger and poverty. But as sure as these words of the Psalmist speak to physical poverty and hunger, they ALSO absolutely speak to SPIRITUAL poverty and hunger.
