Psalm 133

WEEKLY REFLECTION | The Second Sunday of Easter, April 11, 2021

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Alleluia. Christ is Risen!  The Lord is Risen Indeed! Alleluia!

Greetings to each of this blessed Easter Week.  I hope and pray that you had a meaningful Holy Week and Easter Day.  Perhaps some of you who are fully vaccinated were able to be together with small groups of family and friends!

This Sunday, as it is with EVERY Second Sunday after Easter, we read the account of Jesus’ first post-resurrection appearance to the disciples in the Upper Room.  The disciples were devastated by the crucifixion of Jesus and were utterly bereft. But they did what was natural to them – they gathered together. Together to grieve. Together for consolation.

When Jesus appeared to them – His FIRST words uttered were: “Peace be with you.” Then He says it again. Peace be with you.

How could this be – that the rumors of the Resurrection could possibly be true!? The disciples must have been incredulous and beyond overjoyed. One can only imagine!

As we know, one of the disciples was not present for this appearance of Jesus – Thomas. And we know this story only so well. But the other disciples were intentional to tell Thomas of the event. The disciples were in unity even in their time of deep crisis.

This week we pray Psalm 133, one of my favorite psalms for its simplicity and power:

1 Oh, how good and pleasant it is, *
when brethren live together in unity!

2 It is like fine oil upon the head *
that runs down upon the beard,

3 Upon the beard of Aaron, *
and runs down upon the collar of his robe.

4 It is like the dew of Hermon *
that falls upon the hills of Zion.

5 For there the Lord has ordained the blessing: *
life for evermore.

Let us rejoice together this Holy Eastertide – in unity and in joy!  Alleluia!
