Dear Brothers and Sisters,
By time you receive this letter, we may or may not know who our next President will be. As I sit at my desk, writing this on Election Day, I am aware that many of us are anxious about the state of the nation and about the outcomes of all the various elections that are taking place. Whoever is elected as President, senators, representatives, and to state and local positions, there will be change. That is a given. People change, the world changes, our opinions change. The only way to escape change is to die. And I, for one, have had quite enough of that recently, with Mother Gwendolyn-Jane Romeril now joining Bishop Paul, George Allport, and others on our list. Even the universe changes, with stars growing old and new stars being born.
However, change can be frightening. Even change that we long for and prepare for can be unsettling. As universal and omnipresent as change is, though, there are a few things that never, EVER change: God’s loving care is an important one. NOTHING can separate us from that. Jesus presence within our soul is another. As long as we turn to him, no one and nothing can come between us. So while political, economic, social and
personal storms rage outside us, some of them even directed at us, we can tell Jesus in prayer that we feel frightened or threatened, and know, KNOW, despite our own inner turmoil, that we are anchored in the Rock that is Christ.
Tomorrow will come. And we will continue as we do today: to love God, to carry that love out to the world, to serve those in need, and to love each other.
Love to you all!
Mo. Laura
