Dear Brothers and Sisters,
This coming Sunday, in addition to celebrating the second Sunday of Advent, we’ll also be remembering St. Nicholas, whose feast day was on Friday, December 6. All of our St. Nicholas impersonators have moved away or are working in their own parishes, so instead, we’ll have numerous St. Nicholas icons and other things to see around the church. Fr. Cliff Carr moved into a smaller home and donated much of his glorious collection to us. I hope you’ll all be present to see it. And to remember one of the saints we most associate with this season.
I also hope that you will find moments when you can relax into the Advent time of waiting. The challenge is that we’re so used to being busy and rushing around, we both let things capture us or look for things to be busy about since we’re uncomfortable in the unfamiliar waiting and stillness. Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days and 40
nights. Was he resting? Waiting for the start of his ministry? Praying fervently? And what happened? The Devil came and tried to make him DO stuff, to break the quiet.
So find a quiet corner and breathe in the stillness for a bit, as we wait for the coming of Christmas, when we will celebrate with joy the Incarnation.
Advent peace,
Mo. Laura
