St. Margaret's Episcopal Church Steeple

WEEKLY REFLECTION I June 29, 2025 – Proper 8

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Like many of you, I am chagrined at the growing hostility between nations and the fracturing of relationships in governing boards, neighborhoods, and families. Expressed in scorn and sarcasm, careless and cruel words and deeds, this hostility diminishes our love and care for neighbors near and far.

God’s gift of music can reawaken our hearts and reorient our intentions. Toward that goal, each Sunday of July I will play the same prelude, Song of Peace (Chant de Paix). The French organist/composer Jean Langlais (1907-1991) created a quiet, ethereal piece that helps me set aside cares, concerns, and yes, anger to pray for and experience God’s peace.

I invite you to arrive early these July Sundays, and let the Song of Peace quiet your soul and inspire prayer for peace, near and far.

Dodd Lamberton
Organist in Residence

I am especially grateful that Dodd has called us to some extra moments of prayer for peace, in a time when the wars and rumors of wars Jesus warned us about seem to be proliferating daily. The Prayerbook gives us a number of wonderful resources. In addition to spendng a few moments in your own prayers, you might wish to add prayers from pages 814-816.

Bishop Kevin and Bishop Audrey from the Diocese of Central PA have written a letter concerning the latest news about Iran. It is printed on the next page. For more, visit Praying daily with you, for our nation, our
parish, and the world,

Mo. Laura
