WEEKLY REFLECTION | Seventh Sunday after Pentecost, July 24, 2022

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Thank you for your support and patience as I traveled to Denver for my mother’s memorial and spent a week following that at Icon Camp. This was our 37th year of gathering to paint icons of holy men and women. All went well, but I am very happy to be home now.  I missed everyone in the St. Margaret community!

Although summer traditionally is a bit quieter and slower, I have some exciting events to share with you. Please add to your calendar and share with others.

On Sunday, August 7, at 1:30, several of us will be going to Legend in Macungie, just a few miles away from St. Margaret’s, to provide a short service for them. We will have scripture, prayers, a brief reflection, but most of all we will be having lots of the old hymns. Some friends from St. Anne’s in Trexlertown will also be joining us, as will Fr. Jerry Gaeta. Legend is an assisted care facility, with a memory care unit, and they are in need of spiritual support. If you would like to go with us, that would be a wonderful ministry! Let me know.

On Saturday, August 11, from 10:00-3:00, I will be doing a Prayerbead Workshop at the St. Barnabas Center in Kutztown. In the morning, we will be learning about the kind of prayer that traditionally goes with prayerbeads. In the afternoon, we will be making our own set of Anglican Prayerbeads.  Please bring your own lunches, because we will need much of the time to cover the workshop.  There is a refrigerator, if you have something that needs cooling. SEATING IS LIMITED, so if you have an interest, please let me know in advance. We already have some folks from around the Diocese registered.

As I hoped, our iconographer, Fr. Peter Pearson, will be coming to St. Margaret’s to conduct an icon workshop. We will be painting St. Michael, Defender of Kyiv, an absolutely lovely design of Fr. Peter’s. And so appropriate in our current situation. The class will begin on the evening of October 20, all day October 21-22, with some time after the Sunday service on October 23 if necessary. The cost will be $225, which includes all the materials as well as the instruction. NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE (OR ARTISTIC TALENT) is required. Fr. Peter is an EXPERT in helping people learn.  Again, space is limited, so everyone can get enough attention. Please let me know if you are interested. I haven’t started promoting this yet, so you get the first chance. More information and a picture of the icon coming later.

Joy to you all as we continue to worship and serve together!
