Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Last Sunday, although it was rainy and raw, we had a wonderful time with our Bishop Audrey Scanlan. She preached on the challenging passage from Matthew 22: the wedding banquet parable. She helped us recognize that one of the points of the story is that Jesus invites us in many ways (not least in the Eucharist!), and we have a responsibility to respond seriously. Following the service, the generous folk of St. Margaret’s provided a delightful
reception, where we could sit together and enjoy each others’ presence. The Bishop stayed till the very end, letting us all get to know her better on this first visit. As Bishop Sean used to say, “It’s a great day in the Kingdom!” Here is the service, with pipes and drum!
And, speaking of Bishop Sean, the Presiding Bishop, I hope that a number of you will join me in spending time with him this coming weekend.
On Sunday afternoon, I will be leaving for my annual week with friends in upstate New York. I’ll be returning on October 26. Mo. Maria Tjeltveit will be the celebrant and preacher on Sunday (October 25). Dodd Lamberton will be on his way to California, so our old friend Jim Derr will be on the bench. Please welcome Mo. Maria and Jim with a warm St. Margaret’s welcome. If you need pastoral care during my absence, please reach out to Kathy Leber or Greg Cygan, and they’ll be in touch with the priest who is covering for me that day.
JOY!
Mo. Laura
