Dear Brothers and Sisters,
New Year’s Day has come and gone. Epiphany has come and gone and we are now celebrating the Baptism of Jesus. This year, in addition to the Scriptural celebration, we also have the great privilege of being part of the Baptism of Adam Spicer. What a joy to celebrate a baptism 2,000 ago with a baptism today! Makes it more and more real.
However, in case that 18 degree temperature on your thermometer or the white stuff on your lawn this morning didn’t clue you in, winter is well and truly here. Which means there is always the chance of snow/sleet/freezing rain. I am firmly convinced that God does not require anyone to put themselves in danger, or to place others in danger, by driving when the weather is difficult. So if you have any doubts about the weather, please check the media before setting out to church. See information on the back of this letter.
On January 19 and 26, Dodd will be offering a brief practicum (½ hour) for lectors. He’ll share some thoughts about the contributions lectors make to the service; explain about “sense line” readings; and offer an opportunity to practice with the lectern microphone for those who wish to. This will allow you to test and see if you can be heard clearly in the back of the church. The two sessions will be the same—choose the one that is most convenient for you.
As required by the Diocese, I’ll be offering a training for Eucharistic Ministers (chalicers) and Eucharistic Visitors one Saturday morning in February. Would you please look at your calendars and let me know which Saturday will be most convenient for you? I will also give you your licenses at that time.
Lots happening! Keep checking the upcoming schedule!
Let there be Light!
Mo. Laura
