Reflection - Transfiguration

WEEKLY REFLECTION I August 4, 2024

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I know it’s still summer. And many of you may be on vacation or are looking forward to vacation (me, too!). But we are already working on the schedule for the fall. So in this letter, I’m mostly including previews and news about what’s happening so you can plan. And also including some information about help/volunteer possibilities. Please keep an eye on the Coming Up list each week and mark things on your calendar so you don’t miss important or fun events.

From Janice Clymer, who creates the schedule for Readers for the Sunday morning service: we are about to put together the fall list. We always need volunteer readers. If you would consider reading, please send a note to Mo. Laura. She’ll give you a chance to practice, so you know how the sound system and lights work. It’s a
privilege to bring God’s Word to the ears of worshipers! Young people most welcome!

Also from Janice: orders for the next gift card sale are due September 15. Nancy Cygan ill be collecting the orders for Janice who will be in Italy (!what I said about vacation!).

And: Boscovs’ Friends Helping Friends event is Oct. 22. We will be selling shopping passes for $5 beginning the week of Aug. 11. We sell them and keep all the proceeds!! This was a great fundraiser last year, and we hope to outdo ourselves this year. We will need volunteers to sign up to sell for 3 hour shifts through Oct. Sign up sheets can be found in the parish hall, or you may contact Janice at imcraftyj@gmail.com. In addition, we will be handing out packets of 10 shopping passes to all at church. Sell them to friends and family, or purchase them to give to your neighbors. This is a great time to shop for Christmas!!

POTLUCK PICNIC TIME: On September 7 at 4:00, St. Margaret’s is having a potluck picnic and is inviting friends from our Convocation at St. Anne’s and Trinity Bethlehem to join us. Please sign up on the forms in the parish hall indicating what you might bring. There is a list of suggestions, but it’s all good! We will be providing barbecue.

November 15-17 will be a BIG weekend for St. Margaret’s Church! It’s the weekend we celebrate our patron saint. And this year, we are doing something different in addition to the wonderful Sunday service with bagpipes and drum and reception. On Friday evening, 11/15, at 7:00 we will be hosting a concert of traditional Celtic music by Poor Man’s Gambit, a band that plays all over the place, including Longwood
Gardens. See some information about them at https://poormansgambit.com/. And hear some of their music on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2CZl-jQnGZzCvdolhfvp5A. Suggested donation will be $10 per person. Not only will the concert bring some great music to the church on our celebration weekend, we hope it will bring members of the community in to experience our St. Margaret’s hospitality. More to come later in the fall.

Prayers ascending for all,
Mo. Laura
