Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On my way to church Tuesday morning, I stopped at the grocery store to pick up food for an older friend who is temporarily house-bound. To avoid the upcoming heat, I went VERY early, and the store was almost empty inside, save for clerks refreshing shelves, restocking coolers and so forth. Only one register was open, staffed by a smiling young woman. Things were slow, so she noticed the unusual collection of items I had and asked me what my day was going to be like. We chatted just a bit and I mentioned my friend. She clearly assumed that life was going well for him (guessing that someone who was very ill would not be asking for bananas, coffee ice cream and iced tea mix, among other items), so she said she was glad of that. Then she made a lovely comment: “We can be glad each day for another day of life.” I cetainly am! But it’s not the kind of thing you expect to hear in the grocery line. It made my ordinary, on-the-way-to-work-with-a-to- do-list kind of day into one filled with smiles and gratitude. Even if the day goes sour under the extreme heat, there will still be that comment grounding me. It felt like a blessing I am alive. You who are reading this note are alive. Someday we won’t be, but now, for this minute, God has put breath in our lungs and life in our hearts. Let’s remember every day to give thanks for that.
Praying daily with you, for our nation, our parishes, and the world,
Mo. Laura

A NOTE FROM JANICE CLYMER: St. Margaret’s will be selling Boscovs’s Friends Helping Friends shopping passes good for Wednesday, October 22.The pass is only $5 (which we keep), and you get a whopping 25% off the lowest sale price for in-store or online shopping. We are asking each family to sell 10 passes, and also volunteer to sell passes at the store in August through the day of the sale. Sign up with Janice to sell at the store, and the passes will be available on Sundays after church. And don’t forget! We continue to sell Giant and Weis cards each Sunday after church.
COFFEE HOUR DESPERATION!!!! Even during heat waves and summer vacation times, we’re still having services on Sunday. Nobody’s signed up for some of our coffee hours. AUGHGHGH!!!! It did occur to me to bring the sign my faithful husband got me for my kitchen: “COFFEE!!!! Because murder is wrong.” But I thought a note reminding people might be more civilized. If you can, please volunteer. It can be as simple as setting out the coffee pods and tea bags, keeping the Keurigs filled up, putting out the cups and spoons. All of these items are already in stock. If you are a happy baker or cook, people love additional munchies. But buying cookies from a store works just fine, too. It’s about having something to drink and a time to chat with each other, not a gourmet meal. Many thanks!!
