Pentecost - Holy Spirit - St. Margaret's Episcopal Church

WEEKLY REFLECTION | Day of Pentecost, June 5, 2022

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

ALLELUJAH! CHRIST IS RISEN!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHURCH!

What a great weekend we have coming up! The big community yard sale on Saturday—I was just downstairs. Scary how many wonderful things there are. And, if you are a bookaholic like I am, well….what can I say. It will be grand to have many folks from the community visiting us on that day. I’m looking forward to welcoming them.

Saturday afternoon, I am representing St. Margaret’s with a presentation at the annual conference of the Association of Episcopal Deacons. Deacon Liz and Deacon-in-Training Jennifer also plan to attend on our behalf.

And Sunday….oooooh, Sunday!  One of the biggest and best celebrations of the year, second only to Easter in my mind. It’s really hard to overstate the importance of the arrival of the Holy Spirit on the Christian believers soon after Jesus’ Ascension. Tradition has it that this is the birthday of the Church. And moment by moment, we, too, have the vast gift of the Holy Spirit’s presence with us. We are guaranteed that there is never a time when we are without access to God, the Holy Trinity, through the Spirit. The Comforter, the Counselor, the Spirit of Might, the Spirit of Adoption, the Advocate, Spirit of Grace, Spirit of Glory, Spirit of Truth, Spirit of Wisdom, are just a few names for the Holy Spirit in the New Testament. And in the Hebrew Bible, there are many more.

I hope that many of you will be with us in person as well as online as we celebrate the coming and the presence of the Spirit! Wear fiery colors on Sunday. And get ready for a few surprises—there are ALWAYS surprises when the Spirit’s involved!

COME, HOLY SPIRIT!!!

JOY!
