The Collect
Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy of the Word
The Gospel
Jesus said to his disciples, ”When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf. You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning.
“I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because they do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer; about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
Renewal of Baptismal Vows Pentecost
Celebrant Dear People of God: On this Day of Pentecost, the Church calls us to celebrate the gifts of the Spirit, and as a sign of our Baptism in the Spirit calls on us to renew our Baptismal Vows and reaffirm once again the promises which bind us to Christ and to each other……
Celebrant | Do you reaffirm your renunciation of evil and renew your commitment to Jesus Christ? |
People | I do. |
Celebrant | Do you believe in God the Father? |
People | I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. |
Celebrant | Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? |
People | I believe inJesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. |
Celebrant | Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? |
People | I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. |
Celebrant | Will you continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers? |
People | I will, with God’s help. |
Celebrant | Will you persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord? |
People | I will, with God’s help. |
Celebrant | Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ? |
People | I will, with God’s help. |
Celebrant | Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself? |
People | I will, with God’s help. |
Celebrant | Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being? |
People | I will, with God’s help. |
The Celebrant concludes the Renewal of Vows as follows
May Almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has given us a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and bestowed upon us the forgiveness of sins, keep us in eternal life by his grace, in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
