Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary

Reflections on The Season of ADVENT

Dear Beloveds,

The First Sunday of Advent

This coming Sunday marks the Fourth and last Sunday of Advent.  Our waiting is about to break forth into the light of Christmas.

In these last days of waiting, let us rejoice in the hope, peace, joy and love that is Our Lord.

Let us renew our commitment to waiting with all confidence that Our Lord is near.

Let each of us prepare a sanctuary in our hearts for Our Lord.  Let us, like Mary, be a holy sanctuary.

I recall the text of a favorite hymn of mine:  “Sanctuary”.

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving, I’ll be a living
Sanctuary for You.

The Collect for ADVENT IV is so telling of creating a place in our hearts for Jesus:

“Purify our conscience, Almighty God, by your daily visitation, that your Son Jesus Christ, at his coming, may find in us a mansion prepared for himself; who lives and reigns with. You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.        Amen.

God bless you and keep you in the palm of God’s loving hands.
