Outreach News – Fall / Winter 2020 Wrap Up

I think I have finally found the words to describe the list and images below. I’ll begin with Thank You! This is what happens when a faith full parish community gets creative to ensure that our ministry to those around us continues even in these challenging times. It is a testament to a faith community that truly lives into our baptismal vows and the example of our patron, Saint Margaret of Scotland. This is the result of our Outreach ministries in the time of COVID, and through them, we were able to provide assistance to those hardest hit in our community, as seen here:

  1. Donated 170 bottles of shampoo to EHS Angel Network for their holiday baskets.
  2. Donated $1000 to Groceries Plus (Emmaus Food Bank)
  3. Donated gift cards, gloves, diapers, wipes to two displaced East Penn families totaling $2300 in cash / in kind gifts.
  4. Donated $250 in grocery gift cards to the Home and School visitor, allowing her to help more displaced families this winter.
  5. Donated hats, scarves and lap blankets to our Sharing Tree families, thanks to a generous gift from Mother Laura’s knitting group.
  6. Donated an additional 43 hats, 16 ear warmers and 2 scarfs (thanks again to Mo. Laura!!) to the office of the Home and School visitor.  She will hold these on hand to help families when the usual outpouring of generosity at the holidays has dwindled.

The generosity of this parish never fails to leave me speechless.  I am blessed to be part of a community that answers the question of “how can we still serve when we can’t meet in person” by faithfully providing donations totaling over $3500 to fill the needs of the East Penn School District community.  This Advent Outreach season has been a powerful reminder to me that we have been blessed to be a blessing to others, and that we are called to be a beacon of hope and light in the darkness.  If we were in person, I’d be in tears.  I am ever grateful for this parish and the beacon of hope we are in our community.

Blessings,

Jennifer Burkhardt,
Parish Outreach Coordinator
