St. Margaret’s faith community continues to thrive even as we are all daily aware of the news regarding COVID-19 or Coronavirus.
Somewhere between hysteria and fact lies a balanced response and practices for our faith community.
Bishop Kevin has shared resources from the larger Church to advise and help us in our corporate life. We wish to avoid fear and anxiety, but it does seem that “out of an abundance of caution” we strive to provide safety through the establishment of common-sense safe practices at this unusual time.
Practices (For a period of time)
- We will cease to share a common cup at the Holy Eucharist. That means that instead of receiving bread and wine, we will only receive bread. Our theological tradition teaches that communion “in one kind” (i.e. the bread) is sufficient to receive the full grace of the sacrament. (Therefore, Intinction (dipping) the bread in the wine and/or sipping from the Chalice are now disallowed.)
- We will pass the peace without touching. Instead of hugging or shaking hands, make eye contact, nod or bow to one another. (Namaste)
- We will practice “social distancing” meaning to avoid hugging, kissing, or embraces.
- We will not be passing the Offering Plates; there are two offering plates at the back and front of the Sanctuary, where you can place your offering. (for ex., when going to communion.)
Thank you and may the Peace of Christ be with you.
